Apple blows us away with its A-series processors every single year, but for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the Cupertino company has really excelled itself. Its new A10 Fusion chip is twice as fast as any Android phone, and faster than almost every MacBook Air ever made.
In Geekbench tests, the iPhone 7 series outpaces its Android-powered rivals — including Samsung’s new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note 7 — in every way possible. It achieves higher scores in multi-core tests, and more than twice as much in single-core tests.
Here’s a table put together by John Gruber at Daring Fireball that shows just how much faster the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are over the latest Android flagships:
If you think that’s impressive, you’ll be amazed to discover that the iPhone 7 series is also faster than almost any MacBook Air ever made. Only one model — the early 2015 unit powered by a high-end Intel Core i7 processor — is able to outpace it.
Every other model of MacBook Air tested with Geekbench is unable to reach the kind of single-core scores achieved by iPhone 7. In fact, Apple’s latest smartphone is even able to outpace older MacBook Pro units, like the early 2013 model powered by an Intel Core i5.
That’s pretty staggering when you consider you have all that power in your pocket, and it’s exciting to think about what iOS developers are going to do with. The App Store is already home to some terrific apps and games, and they’re only going to get better with that extra power.
