A few days back, famed hacker Luca Todesco released a beta jailbreak for iOS 10.1 – iOS 10.1.1. The jailbreak works with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models along with the iPhone 6s and iPad Pro. Support for other iPhone models will be coming in future updates.

The jailbreak currently works with iOS 10.1 – iOS 10.1.1, which means that there’s no support for iOS 10.2 currently. Although a jailbreak for iOS 10.2 is possible, Luca specifically mentioned that the vulnerability used for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus has been patched in iOS 10.2, so an iOS 10.2 jailbreak for these models may not be coming.

If you’re planning to buy an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus and would like to jailbreak, there are chances that you’d end up with iOS 10.2 installed. In this article, we will show you how you can increase your chances of getting an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 10.1.1 installed.

How to Buy an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 10.1.1 Installed

Step 1: Go to a store that doesn’t have a high sales of iPhone 7. Usually, these stores will have an old stock of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. This means that you have to avoid the Apple Store as they get a new stock frequently.

Step 2: Get in touch with a sales person of that store and tell them that you want to buy an iPhone 7, but would like to know when their iPhone stock arrived.

Step 3: If they refuse to provide this information, go to another person or provide them with a reasonable reason, e.g: you are a developer and would like to get an iPhone 7 with a specific firmware installed.

Step 4: If they agree to tell you the date, it should be before December 12. Any iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus stock that arrived between October 24 and December 12 has a higher chance of having iOS 10.1 or iOS 10.1.1 installed. It is important that the stock came directly from Apple and not from a distributor.

Step 5: If you can afford to buy an iPhone 7 with 256GB, you’ll have even more chances of getting one with iOS 10.1 or iOS 10.1.1 installed.

This is one way of increasing your chances of getting an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 10.1.1 installed. By following these steps, there is no guarantee that you will definitely get what you want, but you’ll have better chances.

Alternate method:

Reddit user, iMikeyB, has figured out that the following serial numbers are preinstalled with iOS 10.1.1:

__SP _SQ _SR _SS _ST _SU __SV

He writes:

From what I have gathered so far, it looks like the following serial number range iPhone 7 devices are pre-loaded / shipped 10.1.1

__SP _SQ _SR _SS _ST _SU __SV

___SO and below appear to be 10.1 or lower

___SW and higher will more than likely be 10.2+

The current version of the Yalu jailbreak supports iOS 10.1 – iOS 10.1.1. If you currently own an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 10.1.1 installed, then it’s important that you avoid updating to the latest firmware if you wish to jailbreak. There are also rumors that iOS 10.2 jailbreak may be released soon.

Let us know how it goes in the comments.
