In part 2 of our Snapchat series, we’re taking about the main reason so many of us started using Snapchat – the Stories feature.

Stories is the screen you’ll spend the most time on. After you open the Snapchat app, swipe left on the camera view or tap the “Stories” button in the bottom-right to get the Stories screen.

Stories are chronological, public stream of photos/videos that disappear after 24 hours. When someone you follow posts a snap to their story, this is where you’ll see them. Tap on the person’s name to load and view their story.

You’ll see all their snaps in the past 24 hours, one after the other. You no longer need to tap and hold to view snaps. They’ll keep playing one after the other. If you want to skip a snap, tap on the screen right side of the screen. To go back a snap, tap on the far left side.

Story Playlist

Tapping a person’s name individually to view all their snaps can get tedious if you follow a lot of people. This is where the Story Playlist feature comes in.

Tap on the person’s thumbnail and they’ll be added to the playlist. Do that for all the people you want to see the snaps from. When you’ve selected all people, tap the play button at the bottom of the screen.

The old feature of watching all stories one after the other is still there, it’s just now hidden. On the Stories screen tap the “Stories” icon in the bottom and all the stories will be selected. Then just tap the play button.

Live Content

One of the best things about Snapchat is viewing snaps from events around the world. When something impressive is happening – like the Super Bowl, Olympics, Snapchat usually has a collection of snaps from that place in the Live section.

Just tap on it and you’ll see a curated collection of public snaps from the event.

Discover Content

Snapchat has an entire screen dedicated to publishers, websites, and brands. Swipe left on the Stories view and you’ll get to the Discover section. You can tap on a publication to start viewing their content. This content is a lot more interactive than snaps. You can swipe up to read stories, you can play videos and a lot more. When it comes to killing time, this section isn’t half bad (and probably doesn’t deserve all the bad mouthing it gets on the internet).

One thing that I don’t like though, is that some of this content is now included in the “Stories” page, under the “Featured” section and there’s no way to get rid of it, or to customize it.

So at least for now, you’ll need to tolerate stories about Kim Kardashian from The Daily Mail that you want nothing to do with.

But hey, if that little section helps pay for Snapchat and keep it the way it is, maybe that’s worth tolerating after all.
