Google has just released a major update for Google Maps, which finally brings offline maps.
You could save offline maps in the previous version using the “Ok Maps” easter egg, but it wasn’t very intuitive.
Google Maps 3.0 now makes it a lot easier to save offline maps. The ability to save offline maps allows you to view it when you’re not connected to the internet, which can be quite handy while travelling abroad or if you plan to go to place with poor data connection
Here’s how you to save offline maps in Google Maps 3.0:
- Search for the place where you want to save an offline map, for example: New York.
- Tap on the place info sheet that appears at the bottom of your iPhone’s screen.
- Now scroll down, and tap on the “Save map to use offline” option.
- It will prompt you if you want to save this map. You can pan and zoom to adjust the area of the map that you want to save offline.
- After you have made the adjustments, tap on the Save option at the bottom.
- You will be prompted to enter the custom name for the offline map. Enter the name, and tap on save.
That’s it. You should be able to see the saved maps when tap on the search bar under Offline Maps when you don’t have an internet connection.
As always, let me know how it goes in the comments.
