In February this year, prominent media house Conde Nast released a demo video of the upcoming Wired Magazine app for the iPad.
The application, which is being developed in association with Adobe, has received a lot of positive press thanks to the revolutionary user experience that Conde Nast has promised.
However, speculations are rife that the app may not see the light of the day owing to the recent changes incorporated in Apple's App Developer License Agreement in iPhone OS 4. As you may recall, Apple recently banned the use of cross-compilers such as Flash-to-iPhone compiler available in Flash Professional CS5 to develop of apps for the iPhone and iPad.
Conde Nast has released a statement to assure their readers that the Wired Magazine app shall work on the iPad despite the recent modifications in the license agreement. In the statement offered to Adage, a Conde Nast spokeswoman has asserted that the company is working with Adobe on the new Wired magazine app which "will be compliant with Apple's new guidelines".
Conde Nast did not elaborate on how Adobe's role in the app development process would change given the new guidelines.
Adobe has also revealed that the two companies have partnered to work on apps for a variety of platforms with iPad being only one of them. In his statement, the Adobe spokesman said,
"We are working with Conde Nast on a cross-platform version of Wired, for distribution to multiple devices and operating systems. To bring Wired to iPad, Conde Nast plans to follow Apple's legal requirements."
Adobe also hasn't provided details on how it plans to be compliant with Apple's new guidelines, which prevents the use of its Flash-to-iPhone compiler.
It will be interesting to see how Adobe engineers develop the Wired app for iPad. Though it looks like they'll have to program it exclusively for the iPad, which means additional cost and effort.
