It’s not every day that something like this comes around that can actually change the way you use your device. This is a pretty awesome product that you need to see in action in order to really appreciate. And on top of all that, it’s pretty cheap. 

So you’re probably thinking to yourself, “OK, how am I going to add buttons to my iPhone? This must be a gimmick.” It’s really not. This is a smart screen protector that allows you to touch the very bottom of your device (to the left and right of the home button) and it will send a signal to the top left or right of the device through the screen protector. The top left and right corners are where you’ll normally find action items within apps. So for instance, if you want to go “back” within an app, you would tap the bottom left of the screen protector and it would send the signal to the top left corner of the app and send you back within that app. Pretty cool, right?! Here it is in action with my first impressions:

See? I told you it was cool. But, how does it work? Basically, the iPhone has a capacitive touchscreen display and it can tell what we want to do by reading where our fingers distort/touch the electrostatic field on the display. So, since we aren’t touching on the display (we’re touching the bottom by the home button) we’re not distorting the electrostatic field with our finger. What the smart screen protector does is it uses a circuit layer to re-route that current from the bottom of the phone, where we touch, to either the top right or top left of the iPhone, where most back/confirm buttons are in apps.

Now, I never use screen protectors just because I never feel like I need them, but when it’s only $10, it’s glass, and it adds functionality to my device, I’m in. I find this much more convenient than trying to use reachability, which I don’t think most people use anyway. Unfortunately, these won’t work with older devices, just the iPhone 6 and newer.
