So far, we have only heard rumors surrounding the iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus, and primarily the OLED iPhone 8. Today, however, a photo of what is allegedly the rear panel of the iPhone SE 2 has been leaked on the internet.
Originating from Weibo, the leak shows the rear Ion-X glass panels of the iPhone SE2. This is the same glass that Apple uses on the Apple Watch Sport. The glass panels have a glossy finish, and the leaked factory document accompanying the glass panels indicate that the model number of the handset will be N79. The use of a glass panel at the rear suggests that the iPhone SE 2 will also feature wireless charging like all the three new iPhone models which will be unveiled later this year.
There have been no reports of Apple releasing an updated iPhone SE 2 this year. With the OLED iPhone 8 being launched on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the original iPhone’s launch, it is likely that the company will only focus on its launch this year. As for the iPhone SE 2, we should see Apple launch it sometime towards the end of Q1, 2018.
Since this is the first time we are seeing an iPhone SE 2 related leak, I will suggest our readers to take it with a pinch of salt.
Apple’s supply chain is already struggling with yield issues of various iPhone 8 components and the ‘pent-up’ demand for the handset later this year will put further stress on it. Thus, Apple launching the iPhone SE 2 later this year alongside three other new iPhones really does not make sense.
