AT&T has finally launched its real 5G network in the US today. The service is currently available in ten cities – Birmingham, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Providence, Rochester, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose. Users with a compatible device using AT&T’s Extra or Unlimited plans will be able to access the latest network service from the brand.

AT&T had launched the 5GE service earlier this year in the country. However, it wasn’t a true 5G network. Instead, it was an upgraded and faster version of 4G LTE, rolled out as a marketing stunt. The network operator was soon criticized for its false claims and advertisements. However, that didn’t stop the brand from continuing to fool its customers.

Today, almost a year later, the brand has launched the actual 5G service. However, don’t confuse it with the faster, 5G+ network. The standard version of the 5G from AT&T uses 850MHz frequency. The 5G+, on the other hand, uses mmWave. While the spectrum for the standard 5G has broader coverage, the mmWave offers faster speeds but with lesser range.

While AT&T’s 5G+ network is already available in 23 cities, the brand hasn’t opened it up for its consumers yet. According to the service provider, the 5G+ network will be available at “a later stage.” Coming back to the 5G network, AT&T says that the service will continue to expand rapidly with Boston, Bridgeport, Buffalo, Las Vegas, Louisville, and New York being next in the line to get the faster network.
