If you are looking for a charger that can keep your iPhone fully charged for up to two weeks and don’t mind carrying a device, which is about the size of a thick smartphone then fuel cell maker Lilliputian Systems – spin-off from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology may have a solution for you.

They have announced plans to sell a portable fuel cell that will be able to charge smartphones like Apple’s iPhone.

Fuel cell maker Lilliputian Systems today announced that Brookstone will be the first retailer to carry its portable USB power source, which will be sold under Brookstone’s brand. The fuel cell device is about the size of a thick smartphone, and the lighter fluid-filled cartridges are about the same size as a cigarette lighter. 

Unlike other portable chargers that need to be charged, the portable fuel cell works with replaceable cartridges, which can even be carried on airplanes.

The Brookstone fuel cell can charge any device that can be charged with a USB cable. Mouli Ramani, Vice President at Lilliputian Systems claims the fuel cell can deliver between 10 to 14 full charges for an iPhone with one replaceable cartridge, which he notes could mean couple of weeks of use for many users.

While Lilliputian Systems haven’t announced the cost of the portable fuel cell, they have disclosed that the cartridges, which are made of plastic and hold butane, will cost a few dollars.

The company will announce the availability of the product later this year.
