A shortcut gets you from Point A to Point B in a shorter amount of time than it would if you did not take the shortcut. Pretty simple premiss right? But when it comes to shortcuts on your Mac, it might take even longer just to find or remember what that shortcut even is. Since every program and application has its own set of shortcuts it takes a while to get everything memorized. But with CheatSheet, memorization is no longer a requirement.
See every app’s shortcuts with CheatSheet
Whether you are using Chrome, Mail, or iTunes you can access each program’s unique set of shortcuts with the free app CheatSheet from Media Atelier.
Step 1.
Download CheatSheet, which requires OS X 10.7 or later and save it to your computer.
Step 2.
Open the zipped file. You will receive a warning for opening programs downloaded from the internet and click Open.
This warning is part of the Gatekeeper Firewall pre-installed on your Mac. If you are unable to install third-party applications you must go to Settings -> Security & Privacy -> General and under “Allow apps downloaded from:” select Anywhere. You will need to enter in your administrator password to make these changes.
This is will now enable you to download applications from the internet without having to do the process every time.
Step 3.
When you open the application for the first time you will need to give it access to your computer. A pop-up like this will appear:
Click Open System Preferences and you will arrive at the following window.
In order to make any changes you must click on the lock and enter in your admin password. Once unlocked, check the box next to CheatSheet to allow the app to control your computer. It needs this access to find and initiate your shortcut commands.
Click the lock again and close out of System Preferences.
Step 4.
Now that all the busy work is done, we can begin using CheatSheet to discover all our app’s shortcuts. As the site says, “Just hold the ⌘-Key a bit longer to get a list of all active short cuts of the current application. It’s as simple as that.”
Here is the CheatSheet for Google Chrome.
When you let go of the command key the CheatSheet will close. To access the settings, hold the command key and click on the gear icon in the bottom-right.
From here you can Print your cheat sheet to hand above your desktop, make the Delay for launching the app shorter or longer, and can Quit the app all together.
CheatSheet is a free and convenient way to learn and view all the important shortcuts for practically all of the applications on your Mac. Let us know what shortcuts you learned in the comment section.
