Snapchat has added a new “3D Camera Mode” feature for iPhone X and newer iPhones. The feature captures 3D selfies and lets you add 3D effects, lenses, and filters. Meanwhile, people who receive the selfie will be able to see it even if they are not using iPhone X. The company will expand the 3D Camera Mode feature for other devices in the near future.

Today we’re excited to introduce a 3D Camera Mode that adds depth to your Snaps. Use it to create Snaps that capture spatial detail, changing in perspective and appearance based on how you move your phone when you view them. These new Snaps look different, act different, and feel different.

The 3D effects will add depth to your Snaps and you can choose from several effects from Filter Carousal. The effects include confetti, animations, and light streaks. Furthermore, the 3D selfies can be stored in your camera roll and elsewhere. However, the image needs to be viewed on the app, if not the 3D effects will disappear. This also means you will not be able to share those funky 3D photos on Instagram or any platform other than Snapchat.

Snapchat recently announced Spectacles 3 with Dual HD camera. The dual-camera setup allows Spectacles to capture depth and dimensions similar to a human eye. This setup also powers Snapchat’s new AR creative tools and stickers which can be used to further enhance one’s Snapchat stories.
