Spotify Now Has Codes to Help Share Music

Sharing music from the Spotify app has typically meant sharing a direct link from the app into another app.

But now Spotify has a new way to help people share what they’re listening to. It’s meant to make it possible for Spotify users to instantly start streaming content, whether it’s an album or a particular song, just by scanning a code. That’s right, Spotify now has its own variation on the QR code. This one looks like a sound wave, though.

To use it, you’ll need to open up the search function and tap on the camera icon, and then hover your phone’s camera over the code. In most instances this means the app will immediately load up whatever the code is representing and start streaming. As noted by The Verge, Spotify removed its Inbox feature, which allowed people to share music from one Spotify user to the next, so this could be a way to replace that.

The old-school method of sharing, with links, is still around, so that’s not going anywhere, it seems.

What do you think of this new sharing process?
