One of the selling points behind the Apple Watch, and not the Watch Sport, is the sapphire crystal display, which Apple claims is completely scratch resistant.
Of course, curious minds need to find out for themselves, so it’s no surprise that when a sapphire crystal display from the Apple Watch gets into the hands of a site like iPhonefixed, tests are going to be run. The site functions as an iPhone repair and service portal, but decided to switch things up a bit by putting a 38mm Apple Watch sapphire crystal display through some testing scenarios to see just how resistant to scratches the display is.
As a result, the tests show the display being put through the paces, including being dragged against a wall, putting it against abrasive paper, letting keys rub up against it, and coins, too. The test also included hitting the display with a hammer, and, for whatever reason, putting it under duress from a power drill.
The end result? The display didn’t scratch, and admitted that Apple’s claims are completely accurate.
Unfortunately, the repair site wasn’t able to get one of the Ion-X glass displays, which is present on the Apple Watch Sport, but one would imagine it would be able to take a beating as well.
The Apple Watch goes up for pre-order on Friday, April 10 with sales kicking off on Friday, April 24. Considering many reviews of the Apple Watch gushed about the Retina display present on the wearable, protecting it is very important.
