Just like the iPhone, the Apple Watch can be used with a passcode to protect the data on the device. Also similar to the iPhone, the Watch will lock you out of the device if you forget your passcode and enter the wrong one too many times in a row. Read on for assistance if you can’t remember the passcode to your Watch and are saddled with a password locked device.

Thankfully, Watch owners who have forgotten their passcode can get out of this situation quickly and easily as long as they perform these operations with the Watch and iPhone in close proximity. The procedure described below ensures the iPhone will backup the Watch data and restore this information when you re-enable the device. The first step to gaining access to your Watch is to erase it as follows.

  1. Open the Apple Watch app and tap My Watch.
  2. Tap General > Reset.
  3. Tap Erase All Content and Settings, then tap again to confirm.reset-apple-watch

Once your Watch is finished resetting, you can pair it again with your iPhone and select “Restore from backup” when prompted. The backup does not contain your passcode information so you should be able to access your Watch with all of your data and customizations still intact.
