Apple’s SVP of design Jony Ive and industrial designer Marc Newson have raised over $12 million at the (RED) charity auction at Sotheby’s earlier today.
43 items were auctioned at the event, which included one-of-a-kind Leica camera, an aluminium desk, a special red Mac Pro, and gold EarPods designed by Jony Ive and Marc Newson.
Here’s a look at how much each of the items designed by the duo fetched:
- The pair of Solid Rose Gold EarPods, which was estimated at $20,000-$25,000, sold for $461,000.
- A special edition Mac Pro customised by Ive and Newson, which was estimated at $40,000 – $60,000, sold for $900,000.
- The (RED) desk made of anodised aluminium, which was estimated at $300,000 – $500,000, sold for $1,685,000.
- Ive and Newson’s custom-made Leica camera, which was estimated at $500,000 – $750,000, sold for $1,805,000.
The proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Global Fund to fight AIDs in Africa.
Few days back, Ive and Newson were interviewed on Charlie Rose about their collaboration to make customised products for the charity auction.
