Do you wish to get notified whenever your friends come online in WhatsApp? If so, you should check out a jailbreak tweak called OnlineNotify that does exactly what you want.
The tweak allows you to keep track of your selected friends by notifying you whenever they go online or offline. It works both when your device is locked or unlocked and when you’re inside WhatsApp. In addition to this, the tweak provides the following features features as well:
- Get notified whenever your contacts start typing a message
- Adds an online indicator next to the online contacts in WhatsApp Favorites tab as well as in Group Info
- Replaces the status under each WhatsApp contact with their last seen timestamp
- Adds a Flipswitch toggle to enable or disable the online/offline notifications
In order to get notified when you’re outside WhatsApp, you have to make sure that the app is always running in the background and you are connected to the internet. Keep in mind that you will always be shown as “Online” to others in WhatsApp when you opt in to receive online/offline notifications.
The developer also recommends that you install another jailbreak tweak known as Insomnia if you want to receive online/offline notifications even when your device is locked. The reason for this is that your iPhone automatically disconnects the WiFi a few minutes after your device is locked.
Once you install OnlineNotify, venture into the tweaks preferences pane to configure it. From there, you can enable or disable the tweak, toggle on or off online, offline or typing notifications and choose whether you want to keep a log of every contact’s online, offline and typing notifications that you receive.
You can also enable or disable receiving notifications outside WhatsApp. This feature is currently marked as ‘Beta’ so it might or might not work on your device. The pane also includes toggles for adding an online indicator next to each contact in WhatsApp and replace their status with the last seen timestamp.
To get started receiving notifications whenever a contact gets online or offline, launch WhatsApp and open the Settings tab. You will notice a new section labelled ‘OnlineNotify’ containing Tracking Table, Contacts Logs and Preferences options. Open Tracking Table and tap on the add button to choose the contacts whom you want to keep track of. The Contacts Logs option is where you can view all the notification logs of each tracked contact.
Out of all the features that the tweak provides, the one that I like the most is the ‘Online Indicator’ feature which adds an online indicator next to each contact in WhatsApp. If you’re interested to give OnlineNotify a try, it is now available in Cydia’s BigBoss repo for $1.99.
