It’s been a bit of a quiet patch when it comes to the Apple Car, especially compared to the whirlwind of information that seemed to keep on coming just a few months back.
But, the trend has broken, as The Information reports that Apple’s expected, but still just rumored, target launch date for the Apple Car may have slipped by a year. The news comes from an in-depth interview with the Sumner brothers (Brian, Kevin, and Michael), who are allegedly working on the Apple Car project, which is codenamed Project Titan. The report states that there have been challenges, and with that, the launch date for the Apple Car may now be 2021:
“The group has run into challenges, say people briefed about aspects of Titan along with other reports. Its top executive left in January, a sign that things there weren’t going well. One person who worked briefly with the Titan team was told during their tenure at Apple that the company had been trying to deliver a vehicle by 2020 but the target slipped to 2021.”
One of those challenges was the departure of Steve Zadesky, Apple’s former Vice President of Product Design, who was believed to be working on the Apple Car project, and had been since 2014. Still, it doesn’t change other rumors surrounding the project, including one that stated the Apple Car was a “committed project” within Apple. Granted, that same report stated the target ship date was 2019, so, if anything, it seems the launch window for the project is constantly shifting.
Is the Apple Car something you’re looking forward to?
