So if you aren’t aware, the new 10.5 iPad Pro was released yesterday. There are a plethora of new things to try out, but first thing I wanted to test was the new 120Hz “ProMotion” feature. This is a feature where the iPad Pro will run it’s display up to 120Hz when needed. But, is it noticeable? That’s what I wanted to find out.

Difference between 120Hz iPad Pro and 60Hz iPad Pro?

So in order to test this and actually compare it, I put it up against the 12.9 inch iPad Pro which runs at a constant 60Hz. Check out the video below to see the results:

You may be asking yourself, “what does 120Hz even mean?” Well, it a nutshell, it basically means 120 frames per second, or in laymans terms, it means that the display refreshes itself 120 times every single second. So when comparing 120fps to 60fps, you’re going to see and feel a difference.

If you watch the video, you can tell the display on the 10.5 inch iPad Pro is definitely a smoother experience. You really notice it when scrolling through, well pretty much anything. Whether it’s on a webpage, through the App Store app, opening and closing apps, scrolling through your icons on your homepage, you name it. If you use an Apple Pencil then you’ll even see less latency when drawing and sketching. It’s really an awesome feature and there’s not a ton of talk around it so it definitely needed to be addressed.

Do note that the difference in the above video will be more readily visible if you have a monitor with a refresh rate of 60Hz or higher.

It really does look a lot better in person so if you have the chance to swing by an Apple store, I’d recommend playing with one of the iPad Pros on display to see for yourself.
