OnePlus today unveiled the OnePlus 6 at an event in London. The company was once a relatively unknown OEM in the smartphone market but has managed to make a name for itself in the last few years by constantly releasing some great phones.

With the OnePlus 6, the company is back with a focus on speed and design. This time around, OnePlus has paid great attention to refining the OnePlus 6, much more than it did with any of its previous smartphones. So, how does the OnePlus 6 compare to the iPhone X? It is not just about the specs though. Both devices differ from each other in many ways and have their own shares of pros and cons.

OnePlus 6: What Sets it Apart from the iPhone X

Headphone Jack: The OnePlus 6 comes with a headphone jack at the bottom which the iPhone X lacks. If you are someone who still owns a traditional pair of wired earphones, you will prefer the accessibility offered by the headphone jack of the OnePlus 6.

Fingerprint Scanner: While the OnePlus 6 features face unlock, it also comes with a fingerprint scanner. While OnePlus claims face unlock on the handset is very fast at 0.4 seconds, the fingerprint scanner located at the rear is even faster with an unlock time of 0.2 seconds.

Price: The OnePlus 6 is priced at $529, while the iPhone X is priced at $999. In the price gap that exists between the two handsets, you can even end up buying a second OnePlus 6 unit by throwing in a few more dollars.

Dash Charging: The OnePlus 6 comes with Dash Charging which can charge the OnePlus 6 to around 60 percent in just 30 minutes. Even better, it does so without heating the handset since the related circuitry is located inside the charger. The iPhone X also comes with fast charging, but Apple does not bundle a fast charger with the handset. And even then, its fast charging is not as fast as that of the OnePlus 6.

Dual-SIM: The OnePlus 6 features dual-SIM connectivity which means you can use two SIM cards on the phone at the same time. Apple only offers the iPhone X in a single SIM variant.

iPhone X: Where it Wins Over the OnePlus 6

Water Resistant: The iPhone X features an IP67 certification which makes it dust and water-resistant. The OnePlus 6, on the other hand, lacks any IP certification, with OnePlus featuring the 6 “daily water resistance.” OnePlus says that the OnePlus 6 will survive being used in heavy rains without any issue.

Wireless Charging: The OnePlus 6 features a glass design but it does not come with wireless charging. Then there’s the iPhone X which features fast (7.5W) wireless charging. While wireless charging is not as fast as wired charging, it is definitely more convenient.

Better Display: While the OnePlus 6 comes with a bigger 6.28-inch OLED display than the iPhone X’s 5.8-inch display, its quality is not as good as that of the latter. The former’s display is not bad by any means but the iPhone X’s display has been crowned as the best smartphone display in the market. It even supports HDR10 and DCI-P3 color gamut which the OnePlus 6 display lacks.

Better Camera: The OnePlus 6 comes with a 16MP f/1.7 shooter at its rear along with a 20MP secondary shooter. While OnePlus has made improvements to the imaging department, the handset is unlikely to beat the iPhone X in terms of camera quality.

Stereo speaker: The OnePlus 6 comes with a bottom firing speaker, while the iPhone X comes with a stereo speaker where the bottom speaker is paired with a tweeter hidden inside the top earpiece grill.

Better Build Quality: The iPhone X and OnePlus 6 both feature glass panels at the front and back, but while the OnePlus 6 makes use of an aluminum chassis, the iPhone X features a more premium stainless steel chassis. This helps give the iPhone X a more premium look and feel.

Available through operators: The iPhone X can be purchased through any operator in your country, while the OnePlus 6 has to be purchased directly and unlocked through the company. This means that you will have to pay for the handset outright compared to the iPhone X for which you can pay in monthly installments.

What do you think about the OnePlus 6? Do you think it makes more sense than buying the $999 iPhone X? Do you think the slight advantages offered by the iPhone X justifies its significantly higher price tag?
