Apple has just launched the 16GB model of the 5th generation iPod touch.
When Apple launched the 5th generation iPod touch last September, it was available in 32GB and 64GB models for $299 and $399, and continued to offer 16GB and 32GB models of the 4th generation iPod touch for $199 and $229 respectively.
The 16GB model of the 5th generation iPod touch is available for $229. Apple has also discontinued the 4th generation iPod touch, making the 16GB iPod touch 5G the new entry level iPod touch.
It features a 4-inch Retina Display, A5 processor, FaceTime HD camera and the same ultraslim design (6.1 mm) as the 32GB and 64GB models. Interestingly, there are some differences between the 16GB model that has been launched today and 32GB and 64GB models.
The biggest difference is that the 16GB model does not come with rear facing iSight camera. This seems to have made it marginally lighter. The 16GB model weighs 3.04 ounces (86 grams) compared to 32GB and 64GB models, which weigh 3.10 ounces (88 grams). It also comes in just one color. Based on the images on Apple’s website, it looks like the back panel is white in color, whereas the front panel is black. It also does not have the “loop” lanyard hook.
