A report originating from ChargerLAB in Hong Kong claims that Apple supplier Luxshare Precision has started producing AirPower. The report is based on news from “credible sources” so there’s no way to verify its authenticity. The source does claim that AirPower will now be soon released by Apple.

Apple had originally unveiled the AirPower alongside the iPhone X in 2017. The wireless charger was highlighted as being able to charge the iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch simultaneously. However, due to engineering issues, Apple could not release the AirPower in 2017 and 2018.

Luxshare already produces the AirPods and USB-C cables for Apple so it does make sense for the company to produce AirPower for the Cupertino company as well. It is also a member of the Qi consortium which further adds credence to this rumor. Previous reports have also claimed that Luxshare is going to be the exclusive AirPower supplier for Apple.

An in-depth report from Bloomberg in September last year highlighted the issues that Apple was facing with AirPower. It noted that the wireless charger was “doomed to failure” due to overheating and interference issues.

It cast doubts on whether we will ever see Apple release AirPower as it had originally promised due to the engineering issues it was facing. The claims made in the report gained more credence when Apple removed all mention of AirPower from its official website after its September 2018 iPhone event casting doubts on the future of AirPower.

The latest leak originating from supply chain sources contradicts this, though until Apple actually gets around to releasing AirPower, it is best to take this rumor with a pinch of salt and not get one’s hopes high. It is possible that alongside AirPower, we might also see Apple unveil the wireless charging case for the AirPods and battery case for the iPhone XS.

Update: ChargeLAB now says that another Chinese source claims Pegatron will start producing the AirPower from January 21.
