Ever since Apple confirmed earlier this year that Amazon was finally bringing its Prime Video service to the Apple TV, many customers have been waiting impatiently for the service’s arrival.

Now, months later, Apple TV owners are still waiting. Earlier this month, while Apple was discussing the upcoming launch of the Apple TV 4K, they said again that Amazon Prime Video would launch “later this year,” without providing an exact date to circle on the calendar. But a new report from BestAppleTV.com aims to shed some light on the launch date.

According to the report, which cites unnamed sources, Amazon is planning on launching its Prime Video app alongside the arrival of Thursday Night Football this week. Specifically, the app could launch for Apple TV owners this Thursday, September 28. Amazon inked a deal with the NFL to stream Thursday Night Football games beginning this season, and the first game it will present is this week.

“Multiple sources could not confirm an exact release date for the new app, but feel based on their knowledge of the situation that Amazon would likely release it before the first National Football League game streaming on Amazon Prime Video this Thursday, September 28th at 8:25 p.m. EDT between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers.”

Unfortunately, there’s no additional information to go on. It’s certainly possible that Amazon has the app ready to go, and that it could launch before the end of this week. And there’s no doubt that making the app available on Apple TV set-top boxes in time for its inaugural Thursday Night Football stream makes sense. But neither Apple nor Amazon have hinted that the app’s arrival could be as soon as this week, so keep the salt shaker handy for now.
