At some point in the future, Apple is rumored to be launching a car. Right now, it’s being handled under the codename “Project Titan,” and Apple has been hiring folks from varying parts of the automotive industry for months now.

That trend continues with the recent report from 9to5Mac that outlines two additional recent hires, one from Tesla and another from Andretti Autosports. The two new hires suggest that Apple is, at least in some form, prototyping car parts, which would be one of many important steps in its progress towards launching the “Apple Car.”

First up, the hire from Tesla. David Masiukiewicz was labeled as a “Senior CNC Programmer R&D Hardware Prototyping” for the company before he left and joined Apple. Now, under the Apple banner, Masiukiewicz is a “Sr. Model Maker,” and he’s working at Apple’s Product Realization Lab. It is in this lab that Apple prototypes many of its products before they make it out into the real world, and considering Masiukiewicz’s history, it would seem like a natural fit for him to be prototyping car parts.

The other hire comes from Andretti Autosports: Kevin Harvey. He left Andretti Autosports as a CNC Machineshop Supervisor, and he officially departed back in August of last year. He’s recently joined Apple’s Product Realization Lab, though, and obviously his history in the automotive industry suggests he has something to do with Apple’s future in it.

Recently, Apple’s project was shaken up a bit, as the lead of Project Titan, Steve Zadesky, left the team. However, Apple apparently filled that gap with hiring Tesla’s former Vice President, Chris Porritt.

It has also been reported recently that Apple has a Project Titan car lab located in Berlin, Germany, and that it’s just one of many areas where Apple has dedicated team members working on the Apple Car project. However, talks with Daimler and BMW have apparently fallen through recently, based on reports that none of the companies could come to terms about who would handle the data populated as car owners used the car.

The Project Titan stories continue to be interesting, especially with Apple’s hiring spree of those in the automotive industry. Are you eagerly anticipating the Apple Car?
