Right now, entering a physical Apple Store means seeing iPads placed next to products working as Smart Signs, which showcase important information about the product it’s sitting next to, as well as pricing information.
According to a report published by 9to5Mac, Apple is looking to make some sweeping changes to its store set up, aiming for a global shift away from the iPad-based Smart Signs. Instead, according to the report, these signs will be replaced with an application, made available on Macs and iOS devices, that will work in much the same way.
For the Mac, there will be an app installed on the showroom units, which will be positioned on the left side of the dock, and be fully interactive. This app will showcase all the pertinent information a buyer might need, including the Mac’s specifications, its pricing and more. There will be an option to call over an Apple Store employee, too, similar to the Smart Sign.
For iOS units, the same app will be placed on the device’s Home screen.
These changes will reportedly go into effect beginning this Wednesday, August 26, and will be the new normal in all stores across the globe.
These changes will go hand-in-hand with other major changes to Apple Stores, including the demotion of iPod units to the accessory sections within the physical retail stores.
