Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs had posted an open letter elaborating on the reasons why Apple has chosen not to allow Adobe Flash on their platform.

But that hasn’t stopped folks from figuring out a way to hack iOS to get Flash content to work on Apple’s iDevices.

Comex, developer of Spirit jailbreak, one of the easiest tools to jailbreak iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch running iPhone OS 3.1.3 has just joined that effort.

He has managed to get Adobe Flash content to run on a jailbroken iPad, using a compatibility layer. He has managed this by porting Android Flash runtime to iPad. Comex is calling the port of the Android Flash runtime for the iPhone as Frash.

Frash is a port of the Adobe Flash runtime for Android to the iPhone, using a compatibility layer, by comex ( http://twitter.com/comex ). Frash can currently run most Flash programs natively in the MobileSafari browser. Frash currently only runs on the iPad, but support for other devices (3GS+ only due to technical restrictions) is planned, as well as support for iOS 4.

A release is planned for when Frash is stable. Developers are welcome to join the effort at http://github.com/comex/frash – fork it and send a pull request with your patches.

Frash won’t be able to address the issues that has prevented Apple from allowing Flash on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch but it seems to be the best bet for users who are missing Flash.
