While WhatsApp is an effective way of keeping in touch with your friends and relatives, it can get frustrating when you start receiving a stream of spam messages from an unknown person. This is why iOS developer Ibrahim Sammour has produced a new jailbreak tweak known as WA ShutUp to save you from this frustation.

Normally, WhatsApp doesn’t allow users to mute individual conversations and stop receiving notifications from them. You only have the ability to mute a group conversation for a specific period of time. WA ShutUp is a useful tweak that enables this feature for individual conversations as well.

Just like group conversations, you will have the ability to mute any individual conversation temporarily in WhatsApp so that you don’t receive any notifications from them.

To mute a specific conversation in the Chats list, swipe the conversation to the left and tap on More -> Mute. You can mute a conversation for 8 hours, a week or one whole year. Doing so adds a tiny mute icon to the bottom right corner of the conversation. To unmute a conversation, all you have to do is to swipe the muted conversation to the left again and choose More -> Unmute.

Keep in mind that you can only mute those contacts with whom you have already started a conversation. The tweak also adds a dedicated preferences pane in Settings containing only a kill switch toggle to enable or disable the tweak whenever you want.

This WhatsApp extension tweak will come in handy if you’re in a class or a meeting and would like to stop receiving notifications from some of your annoying contacts. It is a feature that the team behind WhatsApp should have added to the app a long time ago.

WA ShutUp can be purchased from Cydia’s Bigboss repo for $0.99. The tweak works with the current version of WhatsApp (v. 2.11.16) and supports both iOS 7 and iOS 8 devices.
