AirPower Release Date, Price, Specs & News

Apple unveiled AirPower, an oval-shaped charging mat that would wirelessly charge multiple Apple devices at once, alongside iPhone X in September 2017.

AirPower Specs

Apple hasn’t revealed many details but according to sources, AirPower includes a custom Apple chip running a stripped down version of the iOS mobile operating system to conduct on-device power management and pairing with devices.

Apple will be using proprietary wireless charging technology in AirPower, but the company has said that it will work to make its technology part of the universal Qi standard, supported by the latest iPhones so that other third-party manufacturers can release multi-device charging mats.

AirPower is a step towards Apple’s goal of a wireless future. Apple designers hope to remove most of the external ports and buttons on the iPhone, and even considered removing the Lighting connector from the iPhone X, but decided against it as wireless charging was not yet fast enough.

How much will AirPower cost?

Apple hasn’t revealed the pricing details for AirPower. But late last year, a report suggested that the AirPower may cost $199, but we doubt it would be so expensive.

When Will Apple Release AirPower?

Apple did not say when in 2018 AirPower will be released, but according to a recent report, the company was planning to release AirPower at the WWDC 2018 in June. However, it has got delayed due to technical challenges, including the risk of overheating, complex multi-device charging circuitry, and software bugs with the accessory’s onboard firmware. Apple Engineers are now working hard to put AirPower on sale by September.
