A number of Apple users are reporting on social media that they have been locked out of their Apple ID forcing them to reset their password. There’s no clear reason whatsoever as to why these users were locked out of their account.
Affected users were able to gain access back to their account by answering the security question, entering a trusted number to receive a verification code. Users were also required to reset their Apple ID account password and set a new one.
If your Apple ID has been locked, you will receive a notification on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac saying some settings related to your Apple ID needs to be updated. Until and unless you update your Apple ID account, you will lose access to iMessage, FaceTime, and other Apple services.

@AppleSupport My iPhone X is asking me to input my Apple ID password but says my account is locked after inputting the correct password 😕 Should I be concerned? pic.twitter.com/nptdzFM38G

My AppleID was locked "for security reasons" this afternoon. I rarely type the password, have 2FA enabled, noticed nothing odd, and received no indication of the lock. I wonder if something interesting is going on?
Was anyone else's AppleID account locked recently?

Apple has not issued an official statement regarding this issue but it is possible that the company decided to take this step as a security precaution due to a perceived threat. Or it could just be an error on Apple’s part as well. This will also be a good time to enable two-factor authentication for your Apple account if you have not already done so.
Were you locked out of your Apple ID this morning?
