In a move that’s going to make a lot of iPad owners happy, WhatsApp is finally working on adding iPad support to its app. While WhatsApp is available on the App Store, it is only compatible with the iPhone and does not show up when searched from an iPad.
The latest beta of WhatsApp for iOS hints at the upcoming iPad support. As per screenshots shared by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp for iPad will have the same set of features as its iPhone counterpart, with the only difference being that its UI has been optimized for the iPad.
WhatsApp for iPad will not link to the same account that you are using on your iPhone. This means to use WhatsApp on your iPad, you will have to link it to a new phone number. This is unlike some third-party apps available on the App Store for the iPad which aim to recreate the WhatsApp experience on the iPad via WhatsApp Web.
Facebook will add support for all iPad models to WhatsApp. However, it is still unclear as to when the company plans on rolling out iPad compatibility for WhatsApp on the App Store. While these apps are pretty popular on the App Store, they are hacky in nature and offer a sub-par user experience. With Facebook now itself working on adding iPad support to WhatsApp, iPad users will soon no longer need to rely on such apps.
If you are interested in trying out WhatsApp on your iPad, you can join the TestFlight beta, though it does not have any more beta tester slots available right now.
