Apple yesterday released the tenth beta of iOS 11 for all compatible iPhones and iPads. This is presumably the last beta of iOS 11 before Apple releases a golden master build of the OS to the public after its September 12 event.
So, how does iOS 11 beta 10 compare to iOS 10.3.3 — the latest stable release of iOS 10 — in terms of performance? As per speed test comparison videos posted by YouTuber iAppleBytes, the latest iOS 11 beta brings the performance of older iOS devices like the iPhone 6 and iPad Air almost up to iOS 10.3.3 level.
In benchmarks, older iOS devices running iOS 11 beta 10 now post almost the same scores as they do while running iOS 10.3.3. However, boot times on all these devices is still significantly longer under iOS 11 beta 10 when compared to iOS 10.3.3. The iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPad Air do show a hint of lag and drop frames while running multiple apps at the same time.
It is likely that performance of older iOS devices will even improve once the final version of iOS 11 drops later this month as Apple will further remove its logging and diagnostic tools and streamline the underlying code.
