Yesterday, we noted that evasi0n was downloaded more than 450,000 times within a couple of hours of availability. We have more stats on the jailbreak today, courtesy Cydia creator Jay Freeman aka saurik.
Speaking to Forbes, saurik said that in the first eight hours since the release, evasi0n was used more than 800,000 times, with the number growing to 1.7 million as of today.
For some context, it took Absinthe — the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 A5 devices — a little more than three days to reach the one million milestone. The number still is a fraction of the over 300 million devices on iOS 6, but is a huge number nonetheless, enough to cripple most Cydia repositories and take down saurik’s payment system.
Most repo owners have now recovered to cope with the huge traffic hitting their servers, as shown in this screenshot of Cydia:
Saurik tweeted a couple of graphs to highlight the huge surge in traffic right after the jailbreak was released. We embedded one of those charts earlier, here’s the second one:
chpwn, iOS hacker and creator of popular jailbreak tweaks such as Zephyr, also tweeted an image showing the CPU utilisation of his servers that host his tweaks, highlighting the sharp peak after the jailbreak released:
