The last few days have been exciting for jailbreakers. It has been a long wait. The lack of any jailbreak news even got some news outlets to be bold enough to call it the death of jailbreaking.
If you have missed all the jailbreak news, then here’s a quick recap so you are up to speed on the recent developments.

Electra Jailbreak Toolkit for iOS 11 – iOS 11.1.2 Released
Coolstar, well-known hacker, and developer, released Electra Jailbreak toolkit on January 13. Electra is a developer focussed jailbreak toolkit that allows developers to test their tweaks and themes on iOS 11.
Cydia Not Working
Cydia is not compatible with iOS 11, which means that it you need to install the jailbreak apps and tweaks manually after successfully jailbreaking your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using LiberiOS jailbreak. But since Cydia Substrate is also not compatible with iOS 11, most jailbreak tweaks won’t work. We have heard only of a handful jailbreak tweaks like Filza File manager that will work.
saurik has said that he is working on Cydia for iOS 11, but he has also mentioned that he is working with people from past jailbreaks, so we’re not sure if he will release Cydia now, or will include it as part of another iOS 11 jailbreak.
Update (January 6, 2018): saurik has revealed that he has almost got Cydia Substrate to work for the iOS 11 jailbreak, but he still has work to do to get Cydia to work on iOS 11. He has also expects 3 or more high-profile iOS 11 jailbreak tools, and one in particular which is going to be extremely different.
Update (January 15, 2018): The main advantage of Electra jailbreak toolkit is that it includes Substitute, a Cydia Substrate alternative, which allows users to install and use jailbreak tweaks that are compatible with iOS 11 – iOS 11.1.2. It does not install Cydia, so users you need to install the tweaks and themes manually.
Installer 5: Cydia Alternative May be Released Soon
Infini Dev has announced that they plan to release Installer 5, a jailbreak tweaks store, an alternative to Cydia soon. It will be available for iOS 11 and iOS 10.
Update (December 31, 2017): The Installer Team has released the first screenshots and teaser video of Installer 5. It looks quite similar to the iOS 11 App Store.
iOS 11.2.6 Jailbreak
It is great to finally have an iOS 11 jailbreak, but iOS 11.2.6, iOS 11.2.5, iOS 11.2.2, iOS 11.2.1 and iOS 11.2 do not have a jailbreak. It would be ideal if a jailbreak for iOS 11.2.6, the latest iOS version, is available since we cannot downgrade to iOS 11.1.2 as Apple has stopped signing the firmware file.
The good news is that security researchers at Alibaba’s Pandora Labs have been able to jailbreak iOS 11.2.1 as well as iOS 11.2 on iPhone X. But they have said that they don’t plan to release a jailbreak. So it remains to be seen if someone from the jailbreak community can discover the vulnerabilities to develop the jailbreak for iOS 11.2.1, the latest version of iOS currently.
