Each AirPod has a minuscule, 93 milliwatt-hour battery in its stem. Lithium-ion batteries are known to deteriorate over time. But because of the small battery size, and frequent charging with the case, this process is sped up for the AirPods. After as soon as a year and a half, the AirPods battery can deteriorate to unusable levels. But not all is lost. Before buying a new pair of AirPods 2, try these tips to fix AirPods battery drain.
How to Fix AirPods Battery Draining Quickly
If you’ve had your AirPods for two years now, you know that your AirPods battery has deteriorated substantially. For some users, it doesn’t last for even 30 minutes on a charge. This means that you can’t make a long call, or go for a walk without AirPods giving out on you halfway through.
If your AirPods battery is draining fast then try these tips:
1. Try Resetting Your AirPods
The first and simplest option is to reset your AirPods. As we’ve highlighted in our AirPods tips and tricks guide, it’s the go-to solution if you have any kind of issue on the AirPods (for pairing or connection).
To reset your AirPods, flip open the case and press and hold the Round pairing button at the back of the case. After holding it for 10 seconds, you’ll see the light in the case change to white. This means the AirPods are reset and you can pair them up again.
2. Fully Drain AirPods Battery
One way to increase battery life is to reset the battery cycle. You can do this by first draining the battery fully. Of both AirPods and the AirPods case. Then charge it fully, in one go.
3. Try Repairing From The iOS Device
Instead of resetting from the AirPods themselves. You can also try to disconnect and reconnect the AirPods from the iPhone itself. To do this, open Settings, go to the Bluetooth section and tap on the “i” button next to your AirPods. Tap on Forget Device. Confirm from the next step and then repair your AirPods.
4. Use One AirPod At a Time
This is not a permanent solution but will be incredibly useful in the time of need. Both AirPods are equipped with a microphone. And you can choose to only use one AirPod at a time. So next time you’re going to be on a long call, just start with one AirPod while the other one is charging in the case. When the first AirPod is about to give out, put in your other AirPod and put the first AirPod back in the case for charging.
5. Get The Battery Replaced
If your AirPods are under warranty, you can get the AirPods battery replaced for each AirPods at $49. If your AirPods are out of warranty, they’ll run you $69 each.
Buy a New Pair of AirPods
If you’ve already used your AirPods for around two years, and the above tips are not working for you, you should just buy a new pair. Sell your current AirPods online and buy the new AirPods 2. They come will longer talk time (5 hours instead of 3), Hey Siri functionality and faster pairing as well.
It doesn’t make much sense to spend $140 replacing the batteries of your old AirPods where you can buy a brand new pair for $159.
