Couple of weeks back, Siri – Apple’s revolutionary personal assistant feature, that is exclusively available only on Apple’s iPhone 4S, was ported to iPhone 4. And last week it was also successfully ported to iPad and iPod touch.
However, at that time iPhone hacker and developer – Steven Troughton-Smith had only managed to get Siri’s UI working as Apple was not authenticating commands on its servers from non-iPhone 4S devices.
Steven Troughton-Smith has just tweeted that he along with chpwn (developer of jailbreak apps such as Infiniboard, Infinidock,Infinifolder, ProSwitcher, VoiceActivator) has has figured out a way for Siri to work on a jailbroken iPhone 4 and fourth generation iPod touch by bypassing the authentication issues.
Have Siri connecting to Apple’s servers on iPhone 4 after a hack session with@chpwn!
He has posted the following screenshot of Siri working over Wi-Fi:
He has also posted the video of Siri working on iPod touch:
It remains to be seen if the Siri port will be released to the public as it cannot be done without piracy as they have ported some of the components from iPhone 4S to the older iOS devices to get it to work.
But kudos to Steven Troughton-Smith and chpwn to get Siri working on older iOS devices. It clearly shows that there is no technical reason why Siri can’t run on older iOS devices.
