Last October, Microsoft had launched its own music streaming service called Xbox Music. However, it was available only on Windows based devices.
Microsoft has just announced the launch of Xbox Music app for iOS and Android to take on Spotify, Pandora, and Apple’s soon-to-be-launched iTunes Radio service.
Microsoft has also rolled out free ad-supported version of the Xbox music streaming service on the web (http://music.xbox.com/), which gives users unlimited access to 30 million songs in its global catalog. Microsoft also offers a premium ad-free service called Xbox Music Pass for $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year.
The iPhone app that has been released in the App Store today requires Xbox Music Pass. You can try it for free for 30 days. However, you will have to visit Xbox.com to start the trial.
The iPhone app for Xbox Music includes the following features:
- Stream ad-free music from a catalog of tens of millions of songs
- Add songs, albums, and playlists to your Xbox Music collection and access them from other devices
- Create playlists that sync across your phone, Xbox 360, PC, tablet, and the web
- Listen to music while using your iPhone
- Listen to artist-based radio stations
- Enjoy a rich visual experience for searching, viewing, and playing back music
Microsoft has said that it will be adding support for offline mode, which will let you save music on your device for playback without an internet connection.
