iPhone Dev Team has released a new version of Redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, iPad and Apple TV 2G.
Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 makes use of Geohot’s USB exploit used in limera1n, greenpois0n and PwnageTool.
Dev Team had previously released Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 only for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G users to jailbreak iOS 4.1.
Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 is available for both Mac and Windows users.
iPhone Dev Team had this to say in a blog post announcing the release of the latest version of Redsn0w:
It looks like geohot’s recent limera1n exploit for iPhone3GS/iPhone4/iPad/ipt3g/ipt4g/atv2g will be very beneficial to jailbreakers and unlockers for the next few months (at least). geohot’s limera1n program and the alternative greenpois1on program both use his same exploit (although greenpois0n refuses to tell you that, FWIW), and hopefully SHAtter can be saved for some later device.
Dev team has also added the following new features in Redsn0w 0.9.6b2:
-
custom bootlogos for iPhone3G/iPhone3GS/iPod2G users (with qualifying bootroms)
-
an option that implements the “DFU” button in PwnageTool. This button (which you can use from Windows) lets you prepare your device for a custom DFU. Even if you’re purely a Windows user, you can get a trusted friend to run PwnageTool over your IPSW to create a custom IPSW. You can now install that custom IPSW on your own Windows box, after you run this redsn0w version.
Redsn0w will NOT hactivate or unlock your iPhone. So if you want to unlock your iPhone and currently have iOS 4.0.2 or lower running on your iPhone then use PwnageTool (guide) as it preserves the baseband from getting upgraded so that you can use Ultrasn0w to software unlock your iPhone.
With the latest version of Redsn0w, Windows users have an option to pwn their iPhone using the “Just enter pwned DFU mode right now” option so that it can be restored using a custom firmware file.
Please remember that jailbreaking your iPhone may void its warranty so proceed with caution.
You can download Redsn0w using the download link provided by Dev team at the bottom of their post.
Please don’t forget to let us know how it goes.
