With its third iOS 9 beta on Wednesday, Apple introduced its brand new News app to developers for the first time. It’s officially available only in the U.S. for now, but with a few simple steps, you’ll be able to access it in other countries, too. Here’s how.
The first thing you’re going to need to do is ensure you’re running iOS 9 beta 3.
If you haven’t updated your device since Apple rolled out the update on Wednesday, now’s the time to do so — you won’t see the News app at all without it. You can update on your iOS device itself via the Software Update section, or via iTunes by downloading the firmware from Apple’s Developer Center.
Once that’s installed, you need to change the region of your iOS device, so that it thinks it’s being used in the U.S. But don’t worry; this won’t change the language, so if English isn’t your primary language, that won’t be a problem.
To change the region, open up the Settings app, tap General, tap Language & Region, and then change the Region option to United States. Finally, restart your device so that the changes take affect.
Once your device has booted back up, you should see the News app on its home screen, and you’ll be able to enjoy all of its features just like a U.S. user.
Bear in mind that you’ll need to keep your device on this region for the time being, because switching it back will remove the News app again. However, we expect Apple to bring News to other countries with upcoming betas, so we should have to wait too long for it to appear elsewhere.
