The new Photos app in iOS 10 has added some smart search and filtering features. It’s doing something similar to what Google Photos does but here, all the AI stuff is done on your device itself, not on the cloud. And the app isn’t scanning any of your personal data. This means that it has the ability to scan all your photos and tag them, and then pull together all the photos of the person. But there’s no way Apple knows who that person is. This is where you come in.

This feature is pretty cool. It means you can quickly jump and see all photos of your kids, So, parents, or your friends, without scrolling through your entire library. Here’s how you can add names to recognized faces.

How To Add Name in Photos App

Open the Photos app and go to “Albums” tab. Here you’ll see a “People” album.

If this is the first time you’re using this feature, it might take a while for all the faces to appear here. If you don’t see everything here, come back after a while.

You should see a grid of photos cropped to show the person’s face.

When you tap a face, you’ll see all the photos associated with them.

On the top toolbar, you’ll see the text “+ Add Name” in grey. Tap there and add the name of the person. This will now be saved on your device.

It might be that you have tagged dozens of people in your albums. But you might frequently want to see photos from your closest friends. You can make sure they’re always on the top by dragging their face to the Favorites bar on the top.
