As we had reported earlier, Apple has temporarily pulled the iOS 9.3 update for older iOS devices to prevent users from bricking their devices after installing the iOS 9.3 update.

Apple has just released a new build of iOS 9.3 for iPad 2. The new build number of iOS 9.3 update for iPad 2 is 13E236. The previous build number was 13E233 (13E234 for iPhone,13E233 for iPod touch).

Apple had pulled the iOS 9.3 update for the following devices:

  • iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad mini 2
  • iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s
  • iPod touch 5G

If you haven’t installed the iOS 9.3 update then you should get the new build when you navigate to General > Software Update in the Settings app or when you update your device using iTunes.

Apple has issued the following statement on the issue:

Updating some iOS devices (iPhone 5s and earlier and iPad Air and earlier) to iOS 9.3 can require entering the Apple ID and password used to set up the device in order to complete the software update,” an Apple spokesperson told iMore. “In some cases, if customers do not recall their password, their device will remain in an inactivated state until they can recover or reset their password. For these older devices, we have temporarily pulled back the update and will release an updated version of iOS 9.3 in the next few days that does not require this step.

We expect Apple to release a new build for other devices affected by the issue shortly.

If you’ve an iPad 2, then let us know if the new build of iOS 9.3 fixed the issue.

Update:

It looks like Apple has released the new build of iOS 9.3 for only the iPad 2 (GSM) model. The new build is not available for other iPad 2 models such as iPad 2 (CDMA), iPad 2 Wi-Fi and iPad 2 New. We’ve updated the download page with the link to latest iOS 9.3 build.

We’ll let you know as soon as iOS 9.3 update is available again for these iOS devices. Don’t forget to join our Facebook Fan page, follow us on Twitter, add us to your circles on Google+, subscribe to our RSS feed, or our Daily Newsletter for the latest update.
