iOS 8 Jailbreak

We’ve covered several new and updated jailbreak apps and tweaks for iOS 8 since the Pangu and TaiG jailbreak were released late last year.

Here are some of our favorite jailbreak apps and tweaks that have been released for iOS 8 that enhance the functionality or help you customize your iOS device.

Tage

If you were a fan of Zephyr, the jailbreak tweak that brought cool multitasking gestures to the iPhone then you’re going to love Tage. It allows you to access the app switcher, close apps, switch apps using gestures. It also includes the Auxo-like Quick Switcher feature, which is quite responsive and a joy to use. It is our favorite jailbreak tweaks released in 2014.

ReachApp

Reachability has been the focus of many jailbreak tweaks since the introduction of the feature with the launch of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. ReachApp is one of our favorite jailbreak tweaks that advantage of the Reachability feature. It brings split-screen multitasking to iOS 8 allowing users to view and interact with two apps simultaneously on a single screen.

Auxo 3

Auxo 3 is an awesome replacement for the app switcher. It comes with new features and improvements such as improved Quick Switcher that lets you quickly switch between apps, dynamic Multi-Center that integrates Control Center with the app switcher, the ability to close all apps running in the background and lots more. It is also compatible with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

iCaughtU Pro

Apple has made Find My iPhone, the anti-theft feature a lot more robust by adding Activation lock. It makes it impossible for a person who steals your iOS device to use it. However, it is still not fool proof when it comes to tracking your stolen device as someone can easily turn off your device.

This is where jailbreak tweak iCaughtU Pro comes in handy. It not only prevents someone from turning off your device, which would make Find My iPhone ineffective, it also takes a photograph of the person who tries to turn it off or unlock it using an incorrect passcode, and emails it with the GPS location, which can be very useful in catching the thief.

Activator

Activator allows you to invoke actions using shortcuts from anywhere in the iOS. You will be surprised by the number of shortcuts you can use such as double tap on the status bar, triple tap the Home button, double press the sleep button to trigger stock actions or launch an app or go to the Settings toggle. It offers almost limitless shortcuts to make it easier to use your iPhone.

Activator is a must-have jailbreak tweak for power users.

FlipControlCenter

Apple added the much needed Control Center feature in iOS 7, which gives you quick access to System toggles, music controls, AirPlay, AirDrop and apps from anywhere in iOS, including the Lock screen. However, the number of system toggles and quick launch apps are limited.

FlipControlCenter addresses this limitation by allowing you to add additional toggles and quick launch options to Control Center. You can also customise the order and remove or add toggles from Settings.

BioLockdown

Sometimes when you hand over your iPhone to a friend or family member to check out all the tweaks and customizations you have on your device, you may be thinking in the back of your head, “I hope they don’t go into (specific app here)”. Maybe it’s some embarrassing photos, or even financial information that they have no business knowing. Either way, with BioLockdown, you have the ability to lock them out of whatever you find necessary. It allows you to lock your apps, Control Center switches (system toggles), and Settings pane using Touch ID.

F.lux

We’ve all been there – a notification arrives on your iPhone late at night, and the screen brightness nearly blinds you for the first few seconds after unlocking. F.lux aims to solve this problem by adjusting the color of your iPhone’s display to better adapt to the time of the day.

You’d be amazed to realize how relaxed your eyes feel after installing this tweak, especially if you`tend to use your iPhone just before sleeping. In addition to this, it also helps you get rid of that eerie glow on your face when using your iPhone at night.

Upscale

Upscale lets you run your iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, or iPhone 5 at iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus resolution. The older 4-inch devices run at a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels, and the tweak lets you change this to the resolution of iPhone 6 (750 x 1334) or iPhone 6 Plus (1242 x 2208) or to your own custom resolution, thus giving you more screen real estate.

Rotate+

With the release of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus, Apple added some iPad functionality to the iPhone by enabling landscape mode on the home screen and in many apps. Just like on the iPad, apps in landscape mode on the iPhone 6 Plus run in the split mode, usually with a list on the left, and a detail view on the right. The feature, however, isn’t available on the smaller 4.7-inch iPhone 6 or the 4-inch iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c or iPhone 5. If you don’t have an iPhone 6 Plus, then install Rotate+, which enables landscape mode on all iPhones, letting you use the split view in apps.

➤ Another good alternative is LittleBrother by Ryan Petrich, which includes the functionality of Upscale and Rotate+ in a single tweak.

VirtualHome 8

VirtualHome was the first jailbreak tweak ever to be released for Touch ID. VirtualHome 8 allows you to use Touch ID as the Home button, so after installing the jailbreak tweak, placing your finger on the Home button/Touch ID when you’re on the Home screen will open the app switcher, so you don’t have to double click on the Home button to access it. Similarly, if you’re using an app, then a tap on the Home button will take you to the Home screen. It helps in minimizing the wear and tear of the Home button.

If your iPhone is locked, the tweak includes a feature called QuickUnlock, which saves you the trouble of tapping on the Home or Sleep/Wake button to wake it up, and directly takes you to the Home screen when you place your finger on the Home button/Touch ID.

UntetheredHeySiri

iOS 8 lets you activate it hands-free just by saying “Hey Siri”. The feature sadly works only when your device is plugged in to a power source.

UntetheredHeySiri removes this restriction, and lets you use “Hey Siri” hands free activation all the time. So you’ll be able to activate Siri without pressing the home button, even when your iPhone is not plugged in to a power source.

LastApp

LastApp, a tweak on the BigBoss repo, brings Android like switching to jailbroken devices. After installing the tweak, you’d can assign an activator action to go back to the last or second last app depending on whether you’re on Springboard or in an app.

Sicarius

There are a number of tweaks that let you close all the apps running in the background via the app switcher. But I like Sicarius the most as it not only lets you kill all apps with a swipe, but it also ads a cool 3D animation to the app switcher. It also offers options to control how it works.

iKeyWi 3

iKeyWi adds a 5th row of keys to the virtual keyboard. By default, it adds number keys in the fifth row, which means you can save time as you don’t have to tap on the 123 key to access them, and gives quick access to some of the commonly used punctuations and symbols when you tap the Shift key. It also allows you to customize the keys in the 5th row via the Settings app to any character you want. iKeyWi remains one of our favorite tweaks despite the ability to add third-party keyboards in iOS 8.

WinterBoard

The best thing about jailbreaking is the ability to customize the look and feel of my iPhone. You no longer need to be greeted by the boring default look of the iOS. WinterBoard enables you to do just that, by allowing you to download custom themes from Cydia, that can be applied to completely change the look and feel of your iOS device.

Unfortunately, WinterBoard isn’t as powerful as it was prior to iOS 7. It allows you to just change the icons, you cannot modify`the look and feel of status bar, dock, lock screen etc, like you could do earlier. You can check out our Themes section to find out some of the top Winterboard themes available on Cydia.
