Last night Apple released an update for FaceTime for OS X [iTunes link] to fix the connection issue that users have been facing with FaceTime for almost a week.

Apple is recommending all users of FaceTime on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to install the update.

Unfortunately, Apple is yet to fix the problems with FaceTime that is affecting iOS 6 users. We had assumed that the issue was on the server side. However, since Apple had to release an update to fix the issue on OS X, it looks like Apple will have to release an iOS software update to fix the issue on iOS 6 devices as well.

Users are reporting that they’re not able to place or receive FaceTime calls since April 16th. They’re getting a “connection failed” message. According to the discussion thread on Apple Support Communities, it also doesn’t seem like a carrier related issue, as users are unable to make FaceTime calls either over Wi-Fi or cellular network.

Users who have contacted Apple Support have been told to update their devices to the latest version of iOS to fix the problem.

If you’ve a device running iOS 6, then let me know if you’re still having problems with FaceTime in the comments below.
