Chronic Dev Team has finally released greenpois0n to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G and iPad.
The jailbreak is untethered and doesn’t need iOS 4.2 beta 3 SHSH blobs to be saved like iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w 0.9.7, which is currently available for beta testing.
greenpois0n RC5 is currently available only for Mac users. p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team has mentioned that the Windows version will be released soon.
greenpois0n needs iOS 4.2.1 installed on your iOS device for it to work, so if you need to software unlock your iPhone then you should not upgrade to iOS 4.2.1.
greenpois0n for Mac supports the following iOS iDevices:
- iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G
- iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G
- iPad
greenpois0n does not support hactivation, so your iPhone needs to be hactivated via iTunes.
Please note that jailbreaking your iDevice may void its warranty so proceed with caution and at your own risk. Please don’t forget to backup your iPhone before you proceed. You can refer to this post for instructions on how to backup your iPhone.
You can download greenpois0n for Mac from this link (the site seems to be having problems at the moment so use the mirror site) or this mirror site.
Update 1:
Greenpois0n recommends a clean restore before continuing (it’s not ideal).
Update 2:
You won’t see Cydia after jailbreaking is complete, you need to restart your iPhone and launch the new Loader application to install Cydia on your jailbroken iPhone.
Update 3:
If you don’t see Cydia in the Loader app when you launch it then you can install it using Redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 6 (download link) from Dev Team blog just tick Cydia and don’t use the Monte option.
Update 4:
Chronic Dev have released greenpois0n RC5_2, which fixes various bugs including the Initialized error that many users were getting with greenpois0n RC5. So if you had trouble jailbreaking your iOS device then you can try using greenpois0n RC5_2. You can download greenpois0n for Mac from this link (if you’ve problems accessing the site use the mirror site) or this mirror site. Note: Updated the above link to point to greenpois0n RC5_2.

Chronic Dev has released a new version of Greenpois0n (Greenpois0n RC5_b3) for Mac, which now supports Mac OS X 10.5.x and also fixes many bugs. If you are facing a problem where greenpois0n RC5 opens and exits immediately then you try the latest version as the older version only supported Mac OS X 10.6.x. You can download greenpois0n RC5_b3 from this link (if you’ve problems accessing the site use the mirror site) or this mirror site. [Note: Other links in this post have been updated to point to the latest version]
As always, please let us know how it goes.
