Flip FaceTime Camera

Where is the button to flip the FaceTime camera on your iPhone or iPad in iOS 12?

If you use FaceTime regularly then you may have probably noticed that the button to flip FaceTime camera in the Preview has disappeared. So how do you flip FaceTime camera in iOS 12? We will show you how to flip FaceTime camera on your iPhone or iPad in iOS 12.

The goods news is it is still possible to Flip FaceTime camera, the bad news is not very intuitive and will take you more time to do it. Apple seems to have changed the user interface to accommodate the buttons for the new Animoji feature while making FaceTime video calls.

How to Flip FaceTime Camera on iPhone or iPad in iOS 12

You can follow these steps to flip FaceTime camera on your iPhone or iPad:

Step 1: Access new Control Panel

While you are making a FaceTime video call, tap on the screen. This will bring up a menu with three buttons: mute, cancel and a button with three dots for the additional options.

Step 2: Access Control Panel with Additional Options

Tap on the button with three dots to access the menu with additional options.

Step 3: Flip Camera

This will open another menu which almost covers the entire screen. Tap on the hidden flip button to flip the camera while making the FaceTime video call.

FaceTime - Flip camera

It will flip the camera from the front-facing camera to rear-facing camera. If you want to flip back to front-facing camera again then you will need to follow the steps mentioned above again.

What could be done with a single tap previously, needs to be done in 3 steps. The other problem with the new UI is that the Control Panel with the flip button covers almost the entire screen as you can see above, so you are not sure if the FaceTime camera has flipped from front-facing camera to rear-facing camera. If you flip the camera quite often while making FaceTime video calls like us then you are going to find the change in iOS 12 very annoying.

We hope Apple adds the Flip button back in the camera preview or adds it in the menu which comes up when you tap on the screen to make it easier to flip the camera while making FaceTime calls on your iPhone or iPad. Let us know what you think in the comments.
