Jailbreak iOS 9

Few days back we reported that some users who had jailbroken their device running iOS 9 – iOS 9.0.2 with the Pangu jailbreak were facing a mysterious “Boot Loop of Death” aka BLoD issue.

What exactly is the Boot Loop of Death (“BLOD”)?

Cydia developer angelXwind who has done extensive research about the issue explains:

The BLoD is a peculiar thing. Actually, I — nor anyone else — really understands what the BLoD even is. Because it can get devices stuck in the boot process for literally hours, it appears to continue on forever.

When you try to boot your device, the untether fails consecutively for hours — or, perhaps forever.

reddit user Leyla233, who had faced the BLoD issue more than 15 times across multiple devices, has come up with instructions you can follow to avoid the Boot Loop of Death after jailbreaking the device with Pangu jailbreak.

How to avoid Bootloop of death with Pangu iOS 9 Jailbreak

Note: Please note that you need to first reset your device to factory settings, and restore it from iTunes backup with this method, so the process could take some time.

  • If you take an encrypted backup of your device, then disable it, and take a full unencrypted back up of your device using iTunes. Some users have reported problems when they do a full restore via iCloud after jailbreaking, so it is advisable to do an iTunes backup.
  • Put your iOS device in DFU mode.
    • Plug your device into your computer.
    • Turn off the device by holding the Sleep/Wake or Power button and swiping the slide to power off.
    • Hold the power button for 3 seconds.
    • Begin holding the Home button without releasing the Sleep/Power button for 10 seconds
    • Release the power button and continue holding the home button until you get a popup from iTunes that your device is recognized as being in recovery mode.
  • iTunes will inform you that the device is recovery mode. Click on the Restore iPhone… button to restore your device to iOS 9.0.2.
  • During the setup process, set it up as a new iPhone/iPad/iPod touch. Don’t restore your device from a backup at this point.
  • Download the latest version of Pangu from here.
  • This is an important step. Before launching Cydia, turn off the AirPlane mode, and make sure your iOS device is connected to the Internet.
  • Launch Cydia, and let it load completely. Do not hit the Home button. After Cydia finishes its activities, your device will restart again. Go to Cydia and install the latest version of Cydia Substrate.
  • Now turn it off by pressing the Power button, and swiping on the “slide to power off” slider. Turn it back on.
  • Now reboot the device with the Power and Home button. If it works then you’re good.
  • You can now restore your data from the iTunes backup.

Let us know how it goes.
