There’s no Sleep/Wake button on the new iPhone X. It’s now called a Side Button and long pressing it brings up Siri instead of turning off the iPhone (because, of course, there’s also no Home button on the iPhone X). This lack of buttons changes how you interact with your iPhone in the day to day life. The process of shutting down and restarting an iPhone is now slighting more complicated.
How to Shut Down iPhone X
Now that holding the Side button brings up Siri, the process of shutting down the iPhone X requires a combination of two buttons. Here are the steps to shut down, restart and wake screen on iPhone X.
Step 1: Hold Side Button and Volume Buttons
On your iPhone X, click and hold the Side button and either one of the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons simultaneously for a couple of seconds.
Step 2: Slide to Power Off
Then, you’ll find that your shut down screen shows up. At the top, you’ll find the Slide to power off slider. Below, you’ll also find sliders for Emergency SOS and Medical ID.
How to Shut Down iPhone X Using Settings
iOS 11 added a new software Shut Down button to the Settings app. Now we know why.
Step 1: Go to Settings -> General
To shut down your iPhone using this method, open the Settings app, tap on General and swipe all the way down till you find the Shut Down button.
Step 2: Slide to Power Off
This will bring up the Slide to Power Off slider you’re all too familiar with. Slide on it and your iPhone will power off.
How to Boot Up iPhone
To boot up your iPhone, tap and hold the Side button for a couple of seconds.
How to Wake Up iPhone’s Screen
Usually, you’d press the Home button to wake up the iPhone display or pick it up. With the iPhone X, you just tap the display once to light up the lock screen.
