Math is not the strongest subject for a lot of people in this world. Nevertheless, math problems always seem to weave their way back into our lives. Whether it’s trying to figure out the best discount in the store or calculating the proper tip, math for me, is a necessary evil. Thankfully, iOS 9 brings a much easier way to solve math problems.
Search in iOS 9 has received a lot of love and attention from the guys and gals at Apple. In iOS 8 I rarely used the search function, as I found it pretty weak on functionality and usability. But in iOS 9 that is not the case at all. From the Proactive Search to calling and texting contacts straight from the Search results, Search is much improved. With the addition of math and simple conversions, Search for iOS 9 is hard to ignore.
How to solve math problems in iOS 9
Yes, the Calculator application is still alive and well in iOS 9, but Search does try its best to eliminate the need to open up another application. Simply swipe all the way to the left-most screen to bring up the Search section.
Tap inside the search bar and begin typing a math equation. The results will appear in the “Top Hits” section right below the search bar.
But wait, it does conversions too:
And how about percentages:
Want to know how much a Euro is in US dollars? Search can do that as well. While this may not be a headlining feature at Apple Events, it is infinitely useful. Instead of needed to look up conversions or currency exchange in Safari or Google, you can simply swipe to the left and search it. For more complex equations the Calculator app is still your best option. But for quicker equations or problems try Search.
