Take a Screenshot on iPhone X

Taking a screenshot an iPhone is now a muscle memory for hundreds of millions of users across the world. It’s so deeply ingrained as a way of saving and sharing information that Apple even added a new screenshot preview feature in iOS 11 to speed up this workflow. iPhone X doesn’t have a Home button. This means there’s a new gesture for taking a screenshot on the iPhone X.

The steps to take a screenshot on your new iPhone X are as follows:

iPhone X Screenshot Buttons

To take a screenshot on the iPhone X, press both the Volume Up and the Side button (previously known as Sleep/Wake button) simultaneously. You’ll hear the familiar clank of the screenshot sound and the screenshot preview will show up at the bottom. Tap on it and you’ll see the option to annotate the screenshot. Tap and hold on the preview to directly jump to the Share sheet (for where you can send the screenshot to an iMessage conversation or mail it out to someone).

Alternative: Use AssistiveTouch

To get to both the Volume Up and Side button with one hand, you might have to pull the sliding maneuver where you slide your iPhone down to your palms.

There’s an alternative where you can do this using the AssistiveTouch accessibility feature. Go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> AssistiveTouch to turn it on. Then customize the shortcuts to include the Screenshot feature. Next time, just tap the floating AssistiveTouch button, select Screenshot, and you’re done.
