Jailbreak iOS 10.3.2, iOS 10.3.1 - iOS 10.2.1 Status Update

Apple released iOS 10.3.1 less than a couple of weeks after releasing iOS 10.3 which includes a number a number of new features and improvements.

If you’re not aware, Apple has already closed the signing window for iOS 10.2 which means that you can no longer downgrade from iOS 10.3.1 or iOS 10.3 back to iOS 10.2 and jailbreak with Yalu jailbreak. But, will there be a jailbreak for iOS 10.2.1 and iOS 10.3.1? In this post, we will update you on the state of the iOS 10.2.1 – iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak and all the things that you need to know about it.

Current Jailbreak Status

As of this writing, the iOS 10.2 Yalu jailbreak has been released for 64-bit devices, except iPhone 7. We already published a guide on how to jailbreak iOS 10.2 using Yalu & Cydia Impactor.

If you own an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, you can jailbreak it only if it is running on iOS 10.1 – iOS 10.1.1. The jailbreak can be done using Yalu beta 3 and you can read the tutorial here.

Can I jailbreak iOS 10.3.1 – iOS 10.2.1?

The latest Yalu jailbreak supports only iOS 10 – iOS 10.2. The exploits that were used in this jailbreak have all been patched in iOS 10.2.1 and iOS 10.3, which means that if your device is running on any of these firmwares, then it cannot be jailbroken.

So what is the progress on the iOS 10.2.1 – iOS 10.3 jailbreak? Luca Todesco, the guy behind the Yalu jailbreak, hasn’t provided any information about the state of the iOS 10.2.1 – iOS 10.3 jailbreak. He recently mentioned that he will stop working on public jailbreaks after the release of iOS 10.2 jailbreak. This leaves us with little hope that he would develop a jailbreak tool for iOS 10.2.1 – iOS 10.3.

Given this, you never know what will happen in the future. We have seen surprise releases many times in the past and it could be the same with iOS 10.2.1 and iOS 10.3. There are still other prominent jailbreak teams such as Pangu and TaiG who have released a perfectly stable jailbreak in the past for iOS 7 – iOS 9. Although we haven’t heard from them in a while, you never know when they are gonna release a jailbreak out of nowhere.

Downgrading to iOS 10.2 from iOS 10.2.1 or iOS 10.3

Up until a few weeks back, the signing window for iOS 10.2 was open. Shortly after the release of iOS 10.2.1, Apple closed the signing window for iOS 10.2. This means that you can no longer downgrade to this firmware using iTunes.

If you have saved the SHSH blob for iOS 10.2, there are alternative downgrade methods such as Prometheus. But, there’s no guarantee that it will work.

We hope that this post clears any confusion that you may have regarding the iOS 10.2.1 – iOS 10.3 jailbreak.

Jailbreak iOS 10.3 Status Update (March 27, 2017):

Apple has just released iOS 10.3 with a number of new features and improvements. Unfortunately, you can’t use Yalu Jailbreak to jailbreak iOS 10.3 or jailbreak iOS 10.2.1. Luca Todesco, the well-known hacker, and developer of Yalu jailbreak has advised users to save blobs and stay on iOS 10.2.1 if they want a jailbreak. He has also stated that he is resigning from developing a jailbreak. Let us hope he changes his mind:

Jailbreak iOS 10.3.1 Status Update (April 4, 2017):

Apple released iOS 10.3.1 with bug fixes and security improvements. Unfortunately, there is still a status quo on the jailbreak front. There is currently no tool available to jailbreak iOS 10.3.1 – iOS 10.2.

Jailbreak iOS 10.3.1 Status Update (April 26, 2017):

We finally have some news on the iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak. It looks like Pangu Team, who have released the jailbreak for iOS 9, have allegedly demoed a jailbreak for iOS 10.3.1 at a tech conference in China. It is also speculated that they may release Pangu jailbreak for iOS 10.3.1 as early as next week.

Jailbreak iOS 10.3.2 Status Update (May 15, 2017):

Apple has just released iOS 10.3.2, which includes bug fixes and security improvements. It remains to be seen if the Pangu Jailbreak that we are hoping will be released soon will also work with iOS 10.3.2.

Jailbreak iOS 10.3.2 Status Update (May 20, 2017):

As I had guessed, Apple has fixed quite a few kernel level security exploits in iOS 10.3.2. Adam Donenfeld, the security researcher who has been credited for 8 exploits that were fixed in iOS 10.3.2 released earlier in the week, has just revealed plans of releasing the exploits at a security conference. Donenfeld has clarified that he does not plan to release an iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak, however, he is happy to help someone who wants to use the exploit to develop a jailbreak for iOS 10.3.1 or lower.

I think our best bet is still the Pangu team, who had demoed a working iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak at a tech conference last month. So if you want to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, then you may want to stay at iOS 10.3.1 or downgrade from iOS 10.3.2 to iOS 10.3.1 to improve your chances of a jailbreak. But it also means that it exposes you to these exploits. So you need to weigh the pros and cons.

While it is no guarantee that Pangu Team will release a jailbreak, we’re excited as it certainly gives us hope that we will finally have the freedom to customize our iPhones, iPad or iPod touches the way we want.

It is also a good idea to save the SHSH blobs as Apple is still signing iOS 10.3.1 if you haven’t done so already.
