Apple released iOS 8 publicly a few minutes ago, and the company’s servers are already taking a beating from the high influx of traffic.
iOS 8 is available as an OTA update, but while trying to check for an update from iTunes, users are getting a server couldn’t be reached error.
The error says:
The iPad software update server could not be contacted.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later.
Users have also reported problems when trying to download the OTA update on their iPhones and iPads. The error says:
Software Update Failed.
An error occurred downloading iOS 8.0.
Many other users are seeing the “Update Requested” message, which is likely Apple’s way to ensure that the traffic on its servers remains steady rather than comes in all at once. If you’re seeing this message, the update should likely begin in sometime. But if the message stays for more than a few minutes let us know in the comments below.
If you too are having problems, you can try download iOS directly from Apple’s servers and restoring via iTunes. We have the direct download links here.
