The Apple logo at the rear of their iPhones is definitely a status symbol in many parts of the world. While the logo at the rear is certainly iconic, I can’t help but feel that Apple should have made better use of it to make it further stand out.

Similar to its MacBook lineup, Apple could have made its logo on the rear of the iPhone X and iPhone 8 backlit to make them stand out. We have seen similar mods for previous iPhones so it is definitely possible and does not have a huge impact on the battery life as well. Well thankfully, the same mod is now available for the iPhone X and iPhone 8 as well.

While the end result of the mod is the same — you get a backlit Apple logo, the whole process is way more difficult on the iPhone X and iPhone 8 thanks to their glass construction and limited internal space. The switch to an OLED display on the iPhone X also means that the Apple logo on the rear of the handset will only glow in red, blue, and green colors. On the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, you can use a white LED since they continue to use an LCD display. Another benefit of this is that you will be able to change the brightness of the glowing Apple logo as you change the brightness of the display.

There are two ways to get the glowing Apple logo mod on your iPhone X or iPhone 8 — replace the rear glass or use the original glass but then you will have to cut down through the metal chassis of the device. Both methods are not for the faint of heart and require a high level of expertise.

Do know that this mod does have some unintended side effects as well. First, the glowing LED cannot be turned off and once you install it on your device, there is no turning back. Secondly, the reflection from the glowing LED will negatively impact the quality of the photos you take from the rear camera.
